History of Zara Saheedi- Kutch: By Dr. Jayendrasinh jadeja

In vikram samvat  1817, Godji-2 was throned as maharaja of Kutch at  capital Bhuj on  6th day Jyestha month Sukla paksha, just few days after the death of Lakhpatji( maharaja of Kutch.)

One Mr. Punja sheth who had served earlier in Bhuj state as an important high ranked officer when Godji-2 was a child, had expected to become Diwan (prime minister) of Kutch. While Godji -2 was being enthroned, Punjo sheth was out of station at Junagadh. By the time Punja sheth reached Bhuj, another Person Mr. Jeevan sheth was appointed as the prime minister ( Diwan) of Kutch state. So Punja sheth was much annoyed and went to Sindh. The emperor of sindh was Mr. Gulamshah Kalora at that time. Mr. Punja sheth convinced The Gulamshah kalora that ‘now is golden opportunity for you to capture Kutch, as I know each and every part of Kutch and I have sufficient support in Kutch to get logistic support.’ So Gulamshah Kalora with a mammoth army of 70,000 soldiers attacked Kutch, in vikram samvat 1819 in month of Margashish.

A fierce battle between Gulamshah Kalora and army of Godji-2 was fought on 11th lunar day of margashirsh 1819 on the hills of Zara, some 26 k.m. from Mata No Madh (which is a very holi place having Main temple of Goddess Ashapura, the Kuldevi of Jadeja Rajputs, and is 100 k.m from Bhuj). The army of Godji -2 was fought under the commandership of Thakor Lakhaji of Vinzan.Thousands of soldiers of Bhuj army, thousands of Jadeja Rajputs, few Brahmins also under the leadership of Mr. Jivram Joshi  and sheth Jivan had become Martyrs.

Prominent martyrs in battle of Zara were: Lakhaji ( commander general0 called sar-senapatiji, His son Raolji,Amarji Bhanji,Ramsngji Meramanji,Jesangji Jivanji,Ravdasji Ramsangji,Tugmalji Jetaji, govindsinh Rathos and Jehaji Chauhan, Amarji Bhanji and Ranmalji Junaji, Kalaji akhamalji.

Others who  joined battle and became martyrs were Visaji,Rajaji, alaiyaji,Osman,Jadoji, khimaji,Radhoji,Panchanji,Sujaji,Halaji,Lakhiyarji , Reladiyaji,Raghoji,Jagmalji,Ladhoji Zala,Varjang Chauhan,Kaloji Hothee, osman Bhatti, abado ransinhji, Sanghar Jafer, Jivandas sadhu, and their supporters in thousands. Four Charans namely punjo, sujo, laxman, and kalian had also joined and became martyrs.

The small Thakors of Village Zara, Bhumji and Visaji had fought with great bravery. Their Mother had supplied food to all soldiers for the mother land for many days.

In spite of fierce battle with thousands of soldiers, Gulamshah could not out rightly win the battle of Zara. So he returned back to Sindh without attacking, The Capital city Bhuj.

The battle Of Zara is traditionally called “Kutchha jo Kurukshetra Zaro” ! It was the biggest battle in history of Kutch.

To remember the martyrs at least once in a year, and to preserve the great history and culture of Rajputs, Akhil Gujarat Rajput Yuva Sangh organizes a huge “Zara Saheed shradhanjalee samaroh” every year on 11th lunar day first fortnight of Margashirsh since last 10 years. Thousands of Rajputs and others from Kutch attend the program.

Bhanji-Dal-Jadeja

This post is very special and close to me as my current location i.e. Gandhinagar (The capital of Gujarat state) was named after this great warrior when we had 1st International Rajput Conference in the year 2003.

This is about a great warrior from Nawangar (currently known as Jamnagar). Bhanji Dal Jadeja one of brave characters from the history which lot people might not be aware about. But i assure you that after reading might of his bravery everybody will respect his valor.

Bhanji Dal was chief of Nawanagar state Army. In vikram sawant 1633, Delhi emperor Akbar attacked junagadh. Then Nawaab of Junagadh requested Jam Sataji -I of Nawanagar state to xtend help of his army.

Jam Sataji sent a huge army of 30000 soldiers for help of Junagadh against Akbar under the leadership of Bhanji Dal Jadeja. Nawaab of Junagadh was frightened and he closed the doors of Junagadh fort and requested Bhanji Dal Jadeja to return back as he thought he would not be able to defeat Akbar. But Bhanji Dal refused  and said, ” Once a kshatriya goes to war, he cant go back, either he loses his life or he achieves victory”. He told his army today either Akbar’s arm surrenders or We will fight!.

On midnight, Bhanji Dal and his troops attacked the army of Akbar( lead by Mirzakhan) with great bravery and courage. Thousands of Akbar’s soldiers were killed in the battle. Next day the Akbar’s troops ran away. Bhanji Dal Jadeja along with great warriors of Nawanagar army including Jesaji Vazir, Togaji Sodha and Meramanji Hala Jadeja won the great battle of Junagadh.

Bhanji Dal seized 52 elephants 3530 horses and Palkies of Akbar’s army as well as the Doors of Junagadh fort were also removed. This was a part of punishment to Junagadh nawaab for his cowardness. These doors are still standing at Khambhalia Gate of Jamnagar.

Nawaab of Junagadh felt sorry and asked for forgiveness.

1) Village of chur with 12 other villages.

2)Village of Bhar with 12 other villages.

3)Jam- Jodhpur Tehsil were gifted to Jam Sataji -I By Nawaab of Junagadh. Again in battle of “TAMACHAN” Akbar was defeated b Bhanji Dal Jadeja.

So in this way I pay tribute to the Hero from the past which was not popularly remembered as much as he should. Hats of the bravery in the battle field and His respect for Kshatra dharma.

Param Vir Chakra Winner Pirusingh Shekhawat

I am posting this post as a tribute and salute to the bravery by Rajputs in the war  front for Mother India. This is about Havildar Major Pehru Singh Shekhawat was part of 6 Rajputana Rifles. Piru singh  was the son of Lal Singh Shekhawat of Jhunjhunnu village near Berry. He was born on May 20, 1918. He was given marching orders for Tithwal in Jammu and Kashmir where enemy forces captured mountains. Enemy had strong hold over the places and started bombarding and firing when Indian forces arrived. Bhuchar Mori

I am posting  my first post. And this one is very close to me . This is one is about A fierce battle which was fought in 1591 A.D. -and according  to gujarati calendar Vikram Samvat 1648 at Bhuchar Mori, which is on the outskirts of Dhrol, near Rajkot, in state of Gujarat in INDIA between the forces of Jam Sataji, the ruler of Nawanagar state( CURRENTLY KNOWN AS JAMNAGAR) , andMirza Aziz Kokah, the Suba (Governor) of Emperor Akbar at Gujarat during the Mughal Era .This depicts the bravery and Rajput tradition or Dharma. Nahnoo Muzafar Shah III, the Sultan of Gujarat,  having lost the battle against Akbar, was seeking asylum from princely states. and Jam Sataji offered him asylum.
Emperor Akbar, got angered by this and deputed  Aziz Kokah with  his warriors, weapons and infantry to capture Muzafar alive.Jam Sataji the ruler of Nawanagar  remained determined on protecting Muzafar true to his Rajput Dharma (tradition). In the unavoidable war that followed, lakhs of soldiers from both sides laid down their lives, fighting bravely. Javerchand Meghani in his book Samarangan said that, when the battle ended, the blood from the bleeding bodies flowed like a river and and it changed the whole color of the earth over there into RED which is still the color of soil at the place
