I am very proud to be born in such a great caste that has a history which shows bravery, martyrdom and sacrifices for the motherland and its people.
I though do not have a sound education in history but through my reading and through my upbringing among rajputs have helped me a lot to know about our caste and its heroes. Another advantage I had was my education period was spent at the Rajput hostel known as “HARBHAMJIRAJ GARASIYA BOARDING” located in city of RAJKOT in Saurashtra.
Rajputs are fondly known as Darbar, Garasiya (“Girasdar”), Bapu( as in head of the society) or “Rajanya”( in ancient times). Rajputs in Gujarat had almost covered all the parts of Gujarat. Beginning from Kutch in the west to the Sabarkantha and Banaskatha in North, and from Porbandar in Saurashtra to Bhavnagar and Bharuch in south.
Traces of Rajput culture are still found in almost every District of Gujarat may it be planned city of “GONDAL” by Sir Bhagwatsinhji or Sacrifices by Hamirji to protect the temple of Somnath, from education to bravery, Rajputs were leaders in all department.
In Gujarat (including Kutch and Kathiawar and other areas) I am familiar with following clans of Rajputs.
- Jadeja: (Gujarati: જાડેજા Hindi: जाडेजा) belong to Yadu or Chandravanshi [Moon Dynasty]. They originally migrated from sindh. They are one of the 36 dynasties of old tracing their origins to Lord Krishna. They ruled huge parts of Kathiawar peninsula and Kutch until India’s independence in 1947.
- Gohil: The founders of Gohilwad and fondly known as “Gangajaliya Gohil” are one of prominent in Gujarat Rajput society. This clan of Rajput is believed to be migrated from the Jodhpur and are Guhilot Rajputs who directly hails the line of Bappa Rawal. They had several capitals such as Ranpur, Umrala, Shihor, and finally Bhavnagar an their Teelats had several GARAS such as Lathi, Rajpipla,Palitana etc..
